President – Glenn Hefferan

Mr. Hefferan is entering his 18th year as President of the AMHL is only the third person elected to this position.

Mr. Hefferan grew up in the city of Jersey City, New Jersey where he played hockey for the Jersey City Capitals Youth and Junior teams. He began officiating at the age of 15 and started coaching at 18 years old. He volunteered as both a coach and and official for several seasons with the Jersey City Club, before becoming the Club's Co-Director.

In the 1986-87 season, he branched off to start a Junior team in the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League, the Junior B division of the AMHL. The team was based out of the Bayonne Arena under the banner of the Junior Devils. He served as President, GM and Assistant Coach for two seasons, before focusing his coaching efforts in the local high school scene.

In September of 1988, he was recruited by Hudson Catholic High School to coach their varsity hockey team, which had just come off back to back Hanchen Cup Championships. He left Hudson Catholic after two seasons to spend more time with his new wife, and daughter who was born in the summer of 1990.

Mr. Hefferan remained active in officiating, and continued as President of the Junior Devils and League Board Member, but was expected to step down in Spring of 1991, when during that Annual Meeting, Mr. Hefferan was nominated from the floor to run as President of the AMHL. He won the election and has since served in that capacity.

He was quickly recruited by USA Hockey to serve on the National Super League Task Force, the USA Hockey Junior Council and Chairman of Junior National Championships. In January of 1996, he was named Co-Team Leader of the USA Hockey National Junior Team that competed in the prestigious Viking Cup, in Camrose, Alberta, where the U.S. Team earned a Silver Medal.

In June of 1996, he was elected as Director-at-Large to the USA Hockey Board of Directors, an all volunteer board and served in that capacity through 2005, working on both the Marketing and Junior Councils, as well as various committee assignments.

During that same period, he co-founded the Bismarck Bobcats of the North American Hockey League, and served as its President for its inaugural season.

Mr. Hefferan continues to serve with USA Hockey and the Atlantic District on a variety of committees and has been very active with National Officiating Development Program (ODP), a high performance program geared at developing on-ice officials for the highest levels of the game. He is working to have the practices and principles of the ODP carried over into the Atlantic Youth Hockey League.

Mr. Hefferan resides in Ridgewood, New Jersey with his wife Mary, and their daughter Janet, a sophomore and hockey player at American University, and their 15 year old son David.

Joan is entering her 17th season as the Executive Director for the AMHL.  She is a volunteer and is responsible for managing all the day to day operations throughout the league.

Along with her duties to the AMHL Joan has a number of positions with USA Hockey.  She is currently the Atlantic District Director, AAHA Vice President, a USA Hockey Youth Council member as well as a member of the USA Hockey Safety and Equipment Committee.

Joan is a retired teacher, who after receiving her Master’s Degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation also worked a number of jobs in the sports industry.  Joan was the Treasurer for the NJ Alliance for Health, PE, Recreation and Dance, an outsource educator consultant for the NJ Department of Education and a basketball official.

She has also served as an Atlantic District Tournament Chairman, Atlantic District Risk Manager and a member of the USA Hockey Junior Council.

Fred has served as the Director of League Operations for the AJHL for two seasons and will be entering his third season this fall.  Fred is in charge of overseeing day to day operations for the AJ as well as handling schedules, showcases, rosters and game day operations.

Fred received a Bachelors Degree in Marketing and has worked as the General Manager of the following organizations: New Jersey Devils Youth, Team New Jersey (Chicago Showcase) and the Atlantic District Select Teams.

Director of Public Relations and Communications – Derrek Douglas

This is Derrek’s first year as the Director of Media, Events, and Communications for the AMHL. He is in charge of sending out weekly press releases and updating the website daily. His duties also include developing relationships with NCAA schools to inform them of players, events, and league news.

Derrek made his way out east from his home town of Battle Creek, Michigan by playing with the Connecticut Clippers (now Hartford Jr. Wolfpack) and the North Jersey Avalanche. Following his Junior career, he went on to play 4 years at the University of Rhode Island. There, Derrek won numerous defensive awards, the 2005-2006 ACHA National Championship, and served as captain his senior year. Before heading into the real world, Derrek had a “cup of coffee” in the Central Hockey League with the Lubbock Cotton Kings who were coached by NHL great, Craig Janney. For the past 3 years, Derrek has been working in the Sports Performance field as a
Strength and Conditioning Coach working with a variety of athletes at all levels.

Derrek is currently pursuing his Teaching Certification in Health and P.E. at Montclair State University in New Jersey.

Director of Officials – Chris Allman

Chris has been involved with the AMHL for exactly one year now in an administrative capacity and has been working for the USAHODP for 7 years.  As a linesman he has worked his way up from the Junior B levels to the American Hockey League, where he currently serves as a part time linesman.

Chris’s responsibilities include educating and developing on ice officials to work highly competitive junior hockey games to the best of their ability.  Through evaluations and observation, he works to help improve and excel their skills as an official.  Each year Chris works to advance officials to higher levels of hockey.

Referee in Chief – Matt McNulty

Matt has been working for the AMHL since 1995.  He was appointed the Referee in Chief in 2004 and is responsible for overseeing the development of the officiating staff.  Matt is also responsible for handing down disciplinary actions for players, coaches and officials with Chris.

Away from the arena Matt has been a New Jersey Police Officer for 17 years.  He also works as an off ice official for the New Jersey Devils.  Matt has been a positive influence for the officiating staff as he too works as a linesman in the American Hockey League. 

Treasurer – Gary Williams

Gary has been involved in hockey since 1982.  He has served as the AMHL Treasurer for the past 10 years and has been delegated to the AAHA 6 times during his term.

Before coming to the AMHL, Gary worked as the DVHL Treasurer from 1990-1994.
With the Flyers organization Gary was the President of the Flyers Youth from 2002-2009 and before that he was the President of the Gladiators/Flyers Alumni from 1990-1998.
  
Along with working for the leagues on various boards, Gary also has some coaching experience. Gary has been a head coach and assistant coach for the Gladiators Mite, Squirt, Peewee, Bantam, Midget and Junior C teams.  He also was an assistant coach for the Little Flyers PWs and Bantams, Jaguars Bantams and Flyers Youth Squirts, PWs, Bantams and Midgets.

Gary has also been appointed to volunteer many AMHL playoff games, AAHA Districts and several National Tournaments in the District.

Wendy has been worked with the AJHL since 2006 as the Director of Alumni and Placement.  She makes every effort to make sure that every player that has moved on to play college or pro hockey after the AJHL is recognized and put on the Alumni list.
